About Me
Hi! I’m Robyn, a 2nd year Geology (single honours) student, a regular member of the society for the last 2 years, and the current Vice President of the Geological Society at the University of Derby. As VP, I am responsible for organising and ordering the society hoodies and recently took over organising the bi-weekly guest lectures. This has involved a lot of planning and good communication skills, all of which I believe I can bring to the table, if elected, as the president next year.
Why Me?
I believe having someone who is already involved in the society and knows the ins and outs of organising guest lectures, would be beneficial when choosing a new president. For the last few months, I have emailed and spoken to lecturers and researchers all over the world and I think these connections can be useful, in not only been able to hold more guest lecturers next year, but also provide society members with connections to professionals they may have never heard of or had the chance to speak to.
Aims
- Continue the bi-weekly guest lectures
- Look at more day trips/residentials as a society
- Integrate all the committee positions of the society and ensure a seamless organisation that involves everyone
- Ensure all students have geologically related experiences to put on their CV’s
At the end of the day, this is our society and possibly the last year it will run, so we need to make it a good one for everyone who is still at Derby, those who have graduated, and the lecturers that put up with us.
