Candidate for the position of Archery - Social Secretary

Dean Howard

As we all know, I’m probably the chattiest person on the team. I’m always doing something or planning to do something else. I haven’t been part of the team long, having joined in 2021. However, it was clear from the get go that we needed a social aspect for the team.

This past year we have had only one social event, which is not good enough for our team and what our team can be.

I am currently in the process of arranging an end of year event within Friar Gate as a celebration of the team and to say goodbye to our amazing, experienced archers who will be leaving us this year.

When elected, I will promise one major social event a month (themed parties, pub or bar nights- all depending on the teams wants!) and a bi-weekly mini social (be that a casual bar night, or a games night!) I will also arrange after practice gatherings on Saturdays.

As for how our sessions run, I will work to enforce the team spirit and community value amongst us and ensure practice is not only efficient for our competitive archers, but fun for our casual members.

Our presence in the student body is also lacking. I already have a strong network within the sports and social teams so I plan to utilise these to promote our team, get our name out there, and to socialise with other teams. I also hope to run specified “give it a go” sessions exclusively with other societies and teams as a way to boost our numbers and network with the wider university community.

As we all know, freshers is fast approaching, and over the years our numbers have dwindled. With this in mind, I will use all of my energy for the first two-three months of the next academic year to focus on recruitment. My aim is for a minimum of 30 members of the team, so a fun and inclusive social atmosphere is a must.

We’ve all been through a lot together as a team this year, so let’s not repeat this year’s mistakes.

Let’s be better, and make our team the team we know it can be.

I hope I can count on your votes,
Dean H
