Well a lot of you probably weren't expecting this…roll on fourth year! ‘You all know my name so I don’t have to tell you’ but for those of you who don’t hovis is staying boyssssssss

As most of you know I’ve been on committee for the last two years, I was social sec in my second year and then this year I’ve acted as football coordinator as well as taking on many other responsibilities within the club. Over the past few years I’ve learnt a lot about how  clubs should be run, how to get stuff done and what it takes to effectively work with the union and other clubs for the benefit of all members.

  1. One of my biggest priorities next year will be charity - as you're all aware in recent years as a club we’ve struggled to raise a significant amount of money for charity and have failed to get involved volunteering within the community. Therefore, next year I will be pushing for us to hold at least three money raising events (could be in the form of popworld events, quiz nights, bingo) for charity as well as ensuring that we volunteer within the community throughout the year. Volunteering for an hour a week with a grassroots team will be a great experience for many and will increase both the club and the unis reputation.

  2. Club development has to be another massive priority, as I’ve said all year round we all pay the same amount of money to be a part of this club and it is therefore paramount that we all get the same amount of opportunities. I will therefore be working closely with the newly appointed club development officer to ensure this happens. This will include regular games for all and specific training. The plan has started to be put in place however there are so many other things we can achieve, with the long term goal getting a second team reentered into BUCS.

  3. Promoting relationships with the union and other clubs: As some of you may know the union is responsible for everything that goes on within team derby. Over the past two years I have worked to build up and maintain a positive relationship with them which has seen us be granted things such as S&C. Next year I will strive to maintain this whilst bettering the provisions currently in place which include increasing training time, regaining fully qualified pitch side physios and reinstating a team sports psychologist as seen before within the club. Relationships with other clubs are vital at derby, I have already built up positive relationships with many clubs and can now start to use these relationships to offer more opportunities to our members such as providing the opportunity to attend the training sessions of other clubs you may never get the chance to try such as trampolining and climbing. These relationships can also be used to increase the quantity of joint socials and events achieved alongside our newly appointed social secs.

  4. My final point is about extra opportunities I would like to offer to our members, after speaking to the union there can be a provision in place through which we will be able to first aid train members of the club, offer mental health training which has to be a priority as well as offering coaching and officiating courses which will be part funded by the club and the union. There are so many opportunities to get involved, hopefully I have the chance to put them into practice.

Next year I will be the longest serving member of the club which is scary (Jodie I’m coming for your USP) so if there's anyone that knows how the club runs and what we're capable of achieving I’d like to think it’s me.

I know how the club works, I know how the union works and I know what needs to be done in order to see us build back a club which has the opportunity to fight for awards such as club of the year and most charitable club as well as producing a club we’re all proud to be a part of. I’ve spent a lot of time this year doing things behind the scenes to prepare for what will definitely be my last year here, and now I need the opportunity to put into practice everything I’ve lined up so that we’re ready to go next year. I truly believe this club has the potential to achieve so much more, and I plan to be the driving force for this!
