My name is Laney Williams, I am currently on a foundation programme but will be in my first year of zoology this September. I would love to be your next competition secretary. This year I have been an active member of the equestrian society, competing for the A-team and excited to be apart of our amazing team again next year.
I have been riding before I could walk, competed unaffiliated since the age of 9 in dressage, show jumping and cross country and ridden horses of every age, shape, and size. I have been a part of pony club and/ or riding club for the past 5 years allowing me to get a general knowledge of BE rules which I will use when running our own competitions. From competing and helping at competitions this year I believe I have a strong knowledge of BUCS and how the competitions must be run and hope to carry this on throughout the next academic year to the same high standard set. I also hope to improve the following:
- Social Media presence – I intend to help with the upkeep of all our social networks, posting achievements, both team and individual, as well as posting social events we hope to hold next year with all our new members.
- Taster sessions – I would like to organise taster sessions for members including disciplines that they may have not tried before, like horse ball, polo and any others that could be recommended as it will increase team building and encourage members to try something they didn’t have the chance to before.
- Training competitions – These will help new members understand how BUCS competitions work and hopefully relieve them of some pressure on the days. They will be friendly and fun bringing the team closer together.
If you vote for me as your competition secretary, I will create a fun and friendly environment for all riders in our society and allow for new friendships and opportunities for everyone. Thank you, Laney.
