My name is Emily, and I am running to be PR Officer next year. I am 21 years old currently in my first year studying Policing and Investigations. Public relations is a very important role as it is the main reason a lot of girls join the club and make the friends they do. It is also important in gaining exposure for the club and promoting the various events held throughout the season. If I was voted as PR officer, I would want to help promote a positive and inclusive club with opportunities for all abilities particularly with the impact from covid on mental health. I have experience in both A level art and photography and think I could bring a creative flare to the role. I also have experience helping run the UDNC firsts tik tok page this year.
As well as building on previous ideas, I have come up with various new ideas which I think could really improve the club’s social media presence. Firstly, when it comes round to the start of the next academic year, I want to ensure all freshers and any existing students thinking of joining the club have all the information they need to attend trials and give it a go sessions. Promoting the club around this time is most important as we want to try and gain as many new members as possible to help build the club and make sure that people aren’t afraid to come to these sessions. My next idea is to have meet the team posts as well as meet the committee posts when squads are chosen next year, this would include a photo, name, position, and a fun fact about that person. Doing this allows all members of the club to get a better of who is who, this would be inclusive of all BUCS teams and development teams. I would like the club to really recognise the achievements of girls who get player of the match whether it is coaches’ player, players player or oppositions player; to do this I want to have separate posts for players of the match including a photo of the girl and their name. Along with players player posts, I would like to create a team of the week or month out of all girls in the club both BUCS and development, this would involve speaking to coaches or captains of teams and having them nominate multiple people who they think have played exceptionally or been consistently committed that week/month and compiling a star team out of those players. Furthermore, I would like to have more campaign and event exposure on the club social media platforms so that people from other sports and societies want to get involved, this would mean constantly promoting on Instagram and Facebook stories etc. Part of this will include creating ties with other clubs allowing us to not only get involved in more events but also increasing the range of the audience we reach. As well as this, I would like to add a post in every Monday and have Mental Health Monday, this would include advice or a quote from someone within the club to start the week and try to help anyone is struggling and promote that the club is always there for anyone who needs help. With the impact from covid still surrounding us it is always best to show that we, as a club and individuals, care about our members. Finally, I would like the club to have a UDNC tik tok page, this follows on from the idea that the first team had to make a tik tok page this year which was so much fun and now I would like to spread this across the whole club both BUCS and development members can get involved and use their ideas.
