My name is Erin Carr, I am currently in year 2 studying Policing and Investigations and I am running for the role of Cheerleading inclusivity officer. I am a friendly, confident and sociable person. I love to get the know everyone and make sure everyone feels included.

The Ravens have been an important part of my uni experience from the very start. Though I became a member of the Ravens during Covid which made participating and meeting people harder, I wouldn’t have met my best friends without joining. I have been part of the Ravens for two years now and I have already made so many lifetime memories and friends. Before joining the Ravens, I had no cheer experience so I felt nervous about trying a new sport as I have danced my entire life. The club made me feel so welcome and reassured as being a fresher can always feel daunting and scary.

I’d like to say that i am quite well know by most within the club as I do try to speak to everyone which I think is important for this role and I want people to feel like I am a friendly approachable person that they know and feel comfortable talking to.

The current inclusivity officer is Elenor and I have a good relationship with her which helps me to learn the role easier and I can ask her if I’m unsure of something.

Reason why I believe I would be a good inclusivity officer:

  • Understanding, approachable and friendly but not judgemental
  • I have helped people around me who have to deal with mental health issues and I’ve always kept things confidential and providing as much guidance and support as possible
  • I myself had deal with my own mental health and have found healthy ways of coping.
  • I regularly attend all teams including socials therefore I’m a friendly face who will always try to be present
  • It’s not uncommon for people not to get along with everyone, but this isn’t something that would affect how I would approach somebody’s situation, meaning I would always put personal feelings aside.
  • Kit: I’ve always been a creative individual having done textile and art GCSEs. I’ve already got some ideas of  training tops that we could order and I have found some Instagram accounts to use as inspiration. I also think that a vote would be important for finalising kits by giving two options so peoples opinions feel included; this would also include bows.
  • Absences: I will always be organised and using a diary to note down absences. Everything will be kept confidential (alongside the future president). No excuses is ever too big or too small but of course I have to think reasonably in terms of acceptable absences. I will always try to be prompt with my responses.
