Hi, I am Ciara Blake and I am currently in second year studying Professional Policing and I am running for the role of Publicity Officer. I have been a part of Derby Ravens for two years after wanting to explore a new sport at University and I already had a dancing background. I absolutely fell in love with it and everyone that is on the team. Derby Ravens has made my University experience and I could not imagine my life without cheerleading now.

I think I would be good for this role as I have always loved social media. I am always keeping my feed up to date. I absolutely love making videos with my friends which has caused me to have almost 70.0k likes on Tiktok.  My friends will say I always manage to capture the best moments and snippets for people to look back on. I am very creative, bubbly and excel in teamworking skills, which is vital for ensuring the running of cheer goes smoothly for the upcoming year. I am very proactive and organised which is vital for this role to ensure our events are advertised and we are receiving the best engagement we can for our social media pages.

The current publicity officer, Paula, has done an amazing job for the last two years and I know it is big shoes to fill! Therefore, here are a few things that I would like to achieve;

Tiktok- The Tiktok account is the newest social media account which already gains lots of views and attention. I would love to extend this further and really focus on the account this year using the skills I have learnt through using Tiktok myself.

Weekly Highlights- I would love to bring back weekly highlights, this would be a post made on the Instagram every couple of weeks to put the spotlight on team members who have really excelled. I think this is a perfect way to recognise the amazing hard work that members of the team put in.

Potential new members- I know when I joined, I received a lot of help from messaging the Instagram about when training schedules were and what I will do as part of this sport. I would love to create several posts for freshers to see as I know sometimes it can be extremely daunting starting a society when you don’t know anyone.

Training- When I joined the Ravens one of my biggest worries was if I had the right skills to be able to join the team or if I was good enough. Over summer I would love to post some basic stretches and routines that are really easy to follow to practise ready for training in September. This would help returners keep up their flexibility but I hope it would also help individuals thinking of joining cheer what training will involve and help them to feel more confident in their ability.

As a team we always have lots of crazy things going on and a huge part of it all is our supporters! Social media is one of the best ways to get the word out of what we are doing and when our events are so we can gain as much support as possible and get everyone involved.

I would love this opportunity as it is my final year at University and my final opportunity to be a part of 2022/2023 committee. I am confident in myself that I could thrive in this position and cannot wait to prove this to you all.
