Candidate for the position of Musical Theatre - Social Secretary

Ben Clarke

The reason I’m running for this role is because I have loved being apart of this society for my first year and feel passionate about representing us and further giving us acknowledgement throughout the university.  I’d like to say I know how to have a good time and I’d love to spread that throughout the society and have some great nights to remember.

Whilst I may not have any specific qualifications which made me suited for the role, what I do have is the passion for it. I knew this was a role I wanted to go for because in my opinion the best part of uni is the having fun and socialising aspect which should also be a crucial part of a society. Most people that know me would describe me as a social butterfly which is certainly a key aspect required for the role.

My main proposals in this role would be:

  • Monthly socials organised with a theme (themes would include: musical theatre characters, famous duos, anything but clothes, pub golf, group bowling, sober socials and many more ideas - also open to suggestions from members)
  • Run charity/fundraising events to raise money for the society or charities (karaoke, quiz nights, sponsored events etc.)
  • I would network between other sports and societies to put on joint events with them as well as supporting their events and gaining support for our ones
  • Rebrand the society to fit in with the Orange and Blue theme of the University of Derby, this would integrate us into the university more and make us fit in
  • Have regular posts on the social media accounts: including main posts as well as story posts (a variety of new ideas to ensure these would be done and kept up with)
