Hi, my names Mitchell Tomkin and I am running for Men’s Football President for the next academic year. I have been with the club since 2019 and seen 3 different sets of committees run the club, all of which doing fantastic jobs in their own respect at keeping this club thriving. For this role I have taken inspiration from the hardships that everyone, but more specifically us as a club, felt during the pandemic. How our president at the time dealt with the difficult sanctions placed on us and how our current president has guided the club out the other side. This is something I want to bring to the role, that positive, resilient attitude, placing the club at the forefront of every decision that I make.
Going into the next academic year, I have set out a few points that I believe can be developed based off of previous years and how we are going to achieve them. They are as follows:
• Rejuvenation of Trials process
• Give more responsibility to committee roles
• More transparency within the club
• Build upon charitable work
My reasoning for these developments is to create a more unified, more efficient club that gives the best opportunities to its members to play and have an input in how the club is run.
The new trials process I would like to impose allows for trialist to get the best opportunity to be seen and judged by managers. It would see trialists trialling over the course of a three-day period in a select time slot without the fear or pressure of being turned away on the first day, allowing for players who may not get a fair go on the first day, enough opportunity to showcase talents. Secondly, I would like to allow committee members more of a chance to get involved in the decisions made within the club. Bi-weekly meetings that give committee members a chance to voice their opinions to give myself all the information needed to make decisions for the club that will better it overall. Thirdly, allowing the clubs members the opportunity to make anonymous comments on things within the club so I will have a better understanding on how to support them and how I can ensure they are achieving what they want. Lastly, a more aggressive push for the clubs already fantastic charity work. Placing the charity work that we have done, and will continue to do, at the forefront of the public eye as to create a better aura around the club with the university and third parties.
This is my plan for the club, I have put a lot of time and thought into standing for this role as I know the time and dedication it takes to fulfil in extensively. After a positive conversation with the current president, I concluded that this is something that I would regret not doing in the long run.
Thank You,
