My name is Alexander Flower, and being an enthusiastic geologist I understand the importance of trips and events within the subject. They allow you to broaden and enhance your geological knowledge whilst being within a stress-free and fun environment with your peers. Applying what you learn in class into the field on a more regular basis will help to cement the understanding, and will eliminate the likelihood of people forgetting what they have learned. I for one love being in the outdoors, exploring what the world has to offer with its natural beauty, and hoping everyone can experience it just a little at a time.
If I am to be elected as the Events Coordinator for the Geological Society, I will ensure that trips are organized on a frequent basis, to ensure all geologists have something to look forward to during their studies at all times. I will also assist with Guest Lectures, making sure we always have a refreshing, experienced academic every week to help us learn in an exciting manner. As part of my role, students will also be notified with ample time to maximize attendance, as well as all details that will be needed. I will also push to try and get the guest lectures in person, as I believe they are more engaging and allow for questions to be asked and answered on a personal level. Not only this, but I also believe that promoting trips outside our area of study and in a more leisure-type day, can really improve the student's mental health, reminding people how happiness and health should always come first.
Sincerely,
A. Flower
