Candidate for the position of Football & Futsal Women's - Football Coordinator

Emma Gittins

Top to the day with you all fellas, you may know me… I am that human who has too much energy, is a massive child and is apparently a lightweight (which I personally don’t believe is true but hey, each to their own). However, if you don’t know me, my name is Emma, the welsh human (but from the mighty NORTH wales.)

Since coming to derby, having the chance to play football for our university has become a massive part of my life. So, making this club more successful next season is a massive goal of mine. Alongside our current players, as well as next years’ new freshers, I want to help the club to achieve the following…

  • PROMOTION! As we all know, we came 2nd in the league this season. This is still a massive achievement (and we would’ve definitely finished 1st if it wasn’t for silly Loughborough) buttttt I believe we can do better and we can smash that 1st place.

  • Secondly, I believe we can go even further in the cup competition as we were so close this season. But next season will be our season. I know we can do even better than before!

Even though these 2 main targets might seem simple, how we get there is a different matter. If I was to be elected for this role, I want to commit to doing the following things, so that we can achieve our goals…

  • Firstly, I want to push to have an extra coach to keep supporting all our players, for example by reaching out and finding volunteers from sports coaching students at the university, or by gaining an external coach to help support our team. By doing this, and by also working with our new club development officer (which I believe is SO important), this will help to give all our players the best training sessions, suited for everyone.

  • Next would be to keep strength and conditioning going. This will help to focus not just on the football side but will also focus on the need to prevent injuries, as we have all been carrying knocks this season (including myself, oops…)

  • Lastly, I want to help promote the club to make sure it reaches a range of people around the university, so that we can get more players. If we can show off our own love for the game (for example through social media), we can get more people at taster sessions, and can also promote our social events. This is where I can work closely with other members of the committee, such as our social secs and charity officers too.

All of these 3 ideas will help us to reach our goals- to help us win the league next season and help us get even further in the cup and do ourselves proud.

Right, so if you’ve read this far then congrats and thank you, I hope you had fun reading my manifesto. I actually sat down for longer than 5 mins instead of being an annoying human!? Wow.

See you all soon fellas :)
