About Me
My name is Hannah, I am a second-year student studying Creative Expressive Arts, Health, and Wellbeing. I am also your current Treasurer and am really enjoying the responsibility of the role, I would love the opportunity to be next year’s President to introduce lots of new and exciting things to the team!
I have a long background in dance, starting age 4 doing ballet and tap, before going on to study dance and performing arts professionally at 16 at BDC Theatre College. I ended up leaving college due to the difficult nature of the performance industry and now have a passion for using dance in a more positive and constructive way to help people’s mental health and being on the Dance Team for the last two years has helped me to really start to enjoy performing again. The team spirit and relaxed and calm atmosphere is something you don’t get on many dance teams, and I’d like to ensure this continues next year!
Skills and Qualities to Help Me in the Role
- Leadership – I enjoy taking on leadership roles as I am good at making decisions, ensuring everyone in the group has a voice and am an approachable person that people can turn to when they need help. I worked as a manager in NewLook before coming to University where I oversaw a team with no other managers on shift to help me, so am very confident in my ability to manage a team and solve any issues that arise quickly and efficiently.
- Trustworthy – I have proven myself to be a trustworthy person and devoted to the team by working hard as your current treasurer, committing to competitions, rehearsals, socials, and events during my time on the team this year and last year. I will continue to be an active member of the team (and hopefully committee) as I want 2022-2023 to be the best one yet!
- Confidence – I am a people person, and love talking to people in small social settings as well and large crowds. I have lots of performance and public speaking experience which will help me communicate with the team well as President. I also am experienced in communicating with the Union through emails, phone calls and face-to-face meetings after being on committee this year, so will be able to liaise with them and help organise events with no problem.
What Works Well That I Would Expand on
I love the feedback forms throughout the year to give all members a voice, as it allows for changes to be made to the team that directly benefit members. I would like to do more feedback forms to keep it as an open line of communication for those that have anonymous feedback.
I’d like to keep up with the communication on social media, keeping the weekly messages and Instagram posts, but maybe even expand on this and make use of our team TikTok account! This could be a fun way for members to get involved if they want to in the advertising of the club with TikTok’s in lessons, competitions, socials, and workshops.
What New Things I Will Bring to the Role
I will keep organised from the start of the year to ensure smooth running of the team, and this may give us the opportunity to put on another event besides Spookabout after Christmas which will help promote the club and encourage bonds with the other teams.
After our final competition cancelling this year, I’d like to follow in Willow’s footsteps and give it a go attending an extra competition if that’s something the members would be interested in. It would be an extra opportunity to showcase our skills and win more trophies to prove ourselves as Derby Dance Team! I also have other exciting ideas for this in the pipeline as well!
I would like to increase the frequency of workshops this year and offer different styles and a potentially offer one-off online workshops over Christmas or Easter if we have any interest in that (of course not compulsory), to continue the communication, socialisation of the team and hopefully improve team spirit overall.
Overall
I am really excited by the prospect of being the Dance Team President next year as I feel I am a great fit for the role and have some really exciting ideas on how to improve the team and allow for more opportunities for everyone! Let’s make 2022-2023 the best year yet!
