Hello!
I am Salyx – or as most call me Sal.
Most know me for my art and poetry skills – others for my eccentric and slightly questionable fashion choices.
Since I was around 16 I have been taking part in LGBTQ+ events... And I’m not just talking about Pride! I’m talking week/s long projects and volunteering. By being so involved with the community I learned about LGBTQ+ history and experiences. Some of which were upsetting realities - some of which were things to celebrate.
For anyone wondering – yes – I am the person who was sticky noting the flags poster in Blends. I could have written a whole essay about how the whole poster was… Not quite right. One of the main issues were that it confused asexuality and being aromantic.
My Aims:
- Tired of explaining the definitions of all the LGBTQ+ identities? Me too… So that is why I plan to make an LGBTQ+ basics booklet!
Give it to your friends, give it to your family, give it to a stranger on the bus! The possibilities are endless! You’ll never have to worry about the questionable results from Google again!
- More visibility to the smaller lesser known communities and issues within the LGBTQ+ community.
It is important to me to educate others on the issues lesser known to the general public. Have you heard of bisexual and asexual eraser? In fact – have you ever heard of biphobia or acephobia? I want to create an awareness campaign for lesser known LGBTQ+ identities and spectrums.
- Your voice is just as important as mine.
As much as I like to be – I am not all knowing. It is important to me learn more about your ideas, opinions and issues. I want to cooperate with the LGBTQ+ Society, to learn more about your views.
I always wanted to give back to the community that helped me accept who I am. It means a great deal to me to make sure our voices are
