Hi, I’m Hattie and I am running to be a sports councillor for the next academic year. A little bit about me; I am in my 3rd year here at Derby University, going into my 4th and final year, studying Psychology.

I have been a member of the women’s rugby team throughout my time here, with it becoming a huge part of my university life. I have met some incredible people and made some memories I will never forget, from Popworld Wednesdays, to tour in Croatia, to playing alongside my girls week in week out. Having been a responsible committee member for two years already as secretary and social secretary, I have a great understanding of how clubs run and already have a good relationship in place with the union, and other sports teams.

Joining the rugby team has opened my eyes to a whole different community, which I wasn’t hugely aware of prior to coming to university. It has allowed to me to thrive as a person in so many ways, realising my dedication to not only rugby, but sport as a whole. I’d like to believe that my friendly, positive and enthusiastic personality will make me a good candidate for this role.

My three manifesto points are:

1. To be a voice for all sports clubs, relaying feedback to the sports council and VP Activities, while making positive changes in response to this feedback.

2. To help smaller clubs advertise and raise their profile, in turn increasing their memberships and popularity. Alongside this I would like to bridge the gap between sports and societies, for example by holding joint socials or events.

3. To be a friendly face for all students around the university and to encourage them to get involved with sports, being an ambassador for inclusivity.

I would love to take on the role of sports councillor as it allows me to contribute to the development of sports at the university, which I believe is a fundamental aspect of being a student and I want to spread this message to ensure everyone is aware of the opportunities that sport can provide them.

Thank you for taking the time to read my manifesto :) Vote for Hattie!
