On paper, I should not be here. It is extremely sad as we follow the usual narrative, you go through school, you get the grades and you know exactly what you want to do at 18. How often does that really happen? It really is a lot of pressure to put on to someone at a young age.

I went through life, trying to cope and live but something was missing. I wanted to better myself. Wanted to believe I was not the only one going through this. So I looked into university and thought is this possible? I found the foundation pathways at Derby University. Where I could prove myself, get my maths and English so can move on to the degree. I am currently doing the foundation Pathway in psychology with maths and English. I am also the student rep for our pathways group.

It is amazing but one thing I noticed, when going through the process from someone interested to signing up to actually doing it and on the path, it is actually scary. I remember my own personal experience going to an open day, as a mature student and I sat there listening to what they said and straight away I felt like I did not belong. Could feel tears rolling down my face.

My manifesto is to highlight how important mature students are, It really is never too late to learn and create an amazing life for yourself. If you elect me I promise to make sure you are treated exactly the same and also I am passionate about creating social clubs that will support and encourage mature students. Also I promise to make sure mature students are made to feel included and be a strong part of freshers week.  Really is never too late. I really believe in about speaking for others and making sure every voice is heard. Thank you listening.
