Candidate for the position of NUS Rep

Andrew Wilson

Hello Everyone,

My name is Andrew Wilson,

I am last years NUS delegate for the Union of Students.

I am Re-running for the role of NUS Delegate again this year,

After my success’s of last by completely all but 1 of my manifesto points. I successfully challenged the NUS on their language after referring to disabled students as a “vulnerable demographic”

It was after our last conference whereby students were treated so poorly that it was proposed to the AGM that we have an option to vote whether to be able to stay in or out especially if we are not properly supported by the NUS.

I want to challenge the National Union of students to find out what they are doing to help better support students with the cost of living crisis, and why they force us to buy from their suppliers which causes high food costs and I want to know we are not able to source produces from local suppliers which may in fact be cheaper, and could bring down the cost food and beverages within the University. Especially during this cost of living crisis.

Last year I was part of the panel that helped put forward a proposal to challenge the government to change the way they support students through maintenance loans.

This year I want to challenge the NUS and ask them why they are taking so long to do anything to support all students across the country during this cost of living crisis, and actually find out what they are doing and as I have a very loud voice.

I am an undergraduate law student, and I WILL be making sure that they are not silencing delegates again this year that speak and challenge the red tape and bureaucratic nonsense that they were spouting last year.

I WILL MAKE SURE THE VOICE OF UNIVERSITY OF DERBY STUDENTS DOES NOT GET SILENCED.
