Hello, I am Dija Bah, a second-year Mental Health Nursing student-S21 cohort-KR Campus.

I am standing for a part-time Ethnic Minorities Officer because I represent diversity in many ways and an ethnic minority myself. I mingle with all ethnicities across campus, so I understand the needs of ethnic minority students at the University of Derby.

In my current role as a student representative for the second-year mental health group, my part includes seeking the views of ethnic minority students and encouraging them to participate in the union of students’ affairs whilst promoting equality and diversity.

I am known to be approachable, honest, respectful, a good communicator, and a good listener. I am passionate about diversity and inclusion, rooted in my life experience. I have been privileged to travel to or live in four of the seven continents of the world, where I actively engaged and interacted with diverse people. This has increased my cultural awareness and understanding of differences among and between cultural groups. I am also a very hardworking person who does not just like to get things done but wants to get them done to the highest possible standard. If given the opportunity, I will bring these skills and qualities to serve your needs.

If elected for this post, I will endeavour to promote equality, diversity, and inclusion, which is already a top agenda for the University to the next level.

My main objectives will be:

Transformative: I will work with you to increase minority representation at all levels of the University.

I will ensure that diversity-related initiatives are promoted across the University.

If chosen, I will use this platform to champion your voices by engaging with academics and the union of students to creatively challenge and create even better solutions for students to thrive.

Empowering students by providing a platform to share ideas and experiences and discuss issues common among ethnic minority students. This platform will develop and achieve cultural appreciation, promote equality, and prevent unlawful discrimination.

Organising multicultural activities to promote cultural awareness and diversity.

If you want to see change and create more opportunities for students from all racial backgrounds, then I am a candidate for you. Vote for me, and together we can make a difference!
