Welcome to university life - you made it! Whilst we do love a good party, there's so much more to student life; Communities that help you build long lasting friendships, a feedback system that let's you express your opinions and actions them, a support system to help you navigate any troubles you may face along the way - the list goes on!
Over the next few weeks as you settle in at university, there'll be so many opportunities for you to get a taste of what your upcoming student years will look like. From fairs to give it a go (GIAG) sessions, we want to help you start your student journey on the right foot!
Freshers' Fair
As the biggest event of the freshers period, this is your chance to officially meet the Union and find out how we can support you, chat with some of our student-led Communities and get a look at what Derby has to offer - all whilst picking up plenty of freebies!
Community GIAGs
We have over 100 Communities that you can join covering a wide range of interests in several categories (Academic, Faith & Belief, Hobbies & Interest, Nationality & Culture, Liberation & Equality and Sport), so there really is something for everyone to get involved with! Over the freshers' period, our Communities will be hosting GIAG (give it a go) sessions where you can come along to one of their sessions and try it out to see if it's the group for you. Whether it's been a lifelong hobby or you're looking to try something new, there's so much on offer; we'd recommend attending any GIAGs you're interested in to find out what suits you best!
Nightlife
Partying is often labelled as a big part of student culture, and we get it! Which is why we work with Derby's best venues to put on events that you'll love, including RAMMED, our exclusive students only club night. Not a drinker? Not a problem! There's never any pressure to go crazy on a night out, and of clubbing isn't your style, we've got you covered with quizzes, themed bingo nights, karaoke and more!
