Meet friends, flatmates, and course mates, have a bite to eat and chill out. Mark the end of term in style with us this month!
From Monday 17th May, the Union is welcoming you all back to campus with a range of activities made possible by a number of strong local and national partnerships, as well as our brand new mobile catering trailer – Campus Kitchen.
When campus life changed due to the pandemic – the Union’s venues team had to think outside the box. Having closed the Academy bar due to a dramatic decline in footfall, Campus Kitchen was developed with a view to providing delicious food to students in Halls, and on campus. Using the best of British produce, Campus Kitchen serves gourmet street food, burgers and sides, with flavour combinations to tempt all tastebuds and will be supporting a number of academic cohorts to mark the end of their year.
Popular doughnut company Project D, and leading vintage fair host Vintage Vera, will return to campus to host a series of pop-ups at Kedleston Road over the next fortnight – offering sweet treats and stylish solutions – to get you in the mood for Summer, as lockdown eases and normality returns.
Following a successful evening back in September, the Union has also continued to build a partnership with Derby Live and Derby Market Place, to secure an exclusive student night of al fresco dining in the city centre on Thursday 27th May. This will provide students the perfect opportunity to get together, discover fantastic local food outlets and celebrate the end of the academic year. Students are also being offered discounted cinema tickets as part of QUAD’s 16 – 25 programme, to encourage you and five friends (rule of six still applies!) to rediscover the city’s cultural offering and enjoy the latest film releases on the big screen.
Indoor and outdoor sport will also return after a long period of uncertainty, and we're looking forward to hosting a rounders tournament, regular training sessions and some friendly fixtures. Fancy a kick about on the pitch or a badminton battle to settle a long running score with your flatmates? There are plenty of turn up and play opportunities at the University of Derby Sports Centre.
Ready to go out out? Our friends at Mukky Duck are back with some safe, socially distanced, sit down club nights too. Keep an eye on their socials for details.
You should also check out Bustler Market! Award winning street food market in the Heart of Derby's Industrial Quarter. Open Thursday - Sunday with some insta-worthy eats.
If you're not currently living in Derby, or just don't feel quite ready to come back to campus yet - we've got some great virtual offerings too. We couldn't see the year out without recognising and celebrating our amazing student representatives, sports clubs, societies and student led services - and of course, dedicated staff teams - with our annual Awards season events. Join us for the live streamed Education Awards on Thursday 20th May and Activities Awards on Wednesday 26th May. Dress to impress!
