Scarlet, your Vice-President (Education), has been working alongside the Library as well as the University to get longer opening hours for students. From this feedback, the Library will be extending its opening hours at Kedleston Road to 24 hours a day! #Winning
This has the potential to have a huge impact on our students and offers a lifeline for those that work outside of the 'usual' hours, either by habit or necessity, as it gives them unlimited access to resources as well as a study space which contains all the vital equipment necessary for them to complete their reading and assignments.
“I think this is such a great win for all of our students! A 24 hour library has been tirelessly campaigned for over the years by our Academic Reps, as well as the student body in general here at Derby, and it’s so nice to finally see the University listening to our needs and giving this a go! Hopefully students will use this service, which lasts from 5th November to the 16th December as well as for another 6 week period in 2019, to prove how important access to the library and resources are in getting student’s to think critically and ultimately giving them the tools they need to achieve academic success.”
Progress on library opening hours has been made on other sites too. The library in the Devonshire Dome, Buxton is now open until 10pm, Monday - Thursday and till 7pm on Fridays for 15 weeks, mirroring peak assignment times. The Buxton HE Space was relocated and opened following positive dialogue between Buxton representatives, the Library and the University. This has provided a social study space for HE students, available into the evenings.
