This summer nine students will embark on a trip of a lifetime to Fiji thanks to the Union working in partnership with the charity Think Pacific.
After months of creatively fundraising for the trip with the charity Think Pacific, contributing over £11,500 to the RAG Total, the students then started the trip off with a 30+ hour trip to the other side of the world.
Whilst in their village, the students will be going back to basics living with a Fijian family with limited electricity and no Wi-Fi. Each day they will be helping the local community, volunteering at local schools and running sport sessions. Think Pacific have brought numerous university students to Fiji before, also bringing typical English school sports such as rugby, football, netball and hockey.
This may not be the most glamorous of trips, but we are beyond excited to hear about the life changing stories of the people they have met and lives they have affected in return.
This is the first year we have brought the trip to the students at Derby, and if you are interested in spending your next summer in Fiji volunteering, keep an eye on our website for information evenings in October.
