During freshers, you might think the only thing to do in Derby is go out at night, but after being here for a bit, you’ll find there’s way more to it!

When you first get here, definitely check out the events section on the Union website. Besides the usual club nights, they have some really cool stuff coming up like the Outdoor Cinema, Artisan Alley, and the Derbion Student Takeover. The Outdoor Cinema is one of my favourite Freshers events! It’s such a chill night with a good movie and really tasty food to grab. You’ll love it!

Beyond the excitement of Freshers' Week, Derby is a treasure trove of fun places to explore and thrilling activities to try out! If you’re eager to learn something new outside the lecture hall, don’t miss out on Pickford House, the Museum of Making, and the Computing Museum. These spots are filled with fascinating exhibits that will ignite your curiosity!

For those who love arts, crafts, and all things creative, be sure to dive into a world of colour at the Art Gallery at the Quad, get inspired at Artcore+, or unleash your inner artist at Paint a Pot. Each of these venues guarantees a fun-filled, artistic adventure!

Craving a cosy spot to sip some delicious coffee or unwind? Look no further than Blends which serves the best coffee! Or swing by Yada, or one of the many charming cafes sprinkled throughout Derby, such as the Book Cafe.

For nature lovers, the stunning Markeaton Park and the beautiful Arboretum await, not to mention the breathtaking walking trails in the nearby Peak District - perfectly accessible by bus or train for an adventure day! One of my personal favourite hangouts is the Riverside area behind the bus station and council building. It’s the perfect spot to kick back, relax, and enjoy feeding the ducks with some oats or seeds, it's such a peaceful little escape!

For those who thrive on action, Derby has it all! Challenge yourself at Clip N Climb, skate the day away at Rollerworld, or make a splash at Moorways Sports Village and Waterpark. And don’t forget the weekly sports fixtures hosted by the Sports Centre, kicking off on Wednesday, October 15th, come and cheer for Team Derby!

Are you a fan of all things nerdy and geeky? Dive into an epic adventure at Manaforge Games, explore epic finds at Boards & Swords, or satisfy your fandom cravings at Forbidden Planet and Otaku World. Derby has something fun for everyone, so get out there and enjoy!

And let’s not forget the classic leisure favourites! Derby offers bowling, mini-golf, and cinema outings galore! So gather your friends and get ready for endless fun, Derby has something for everyone!
