Does size matter?

We’ve all been there, haven’t we?

You wait in anticipation, imagining the excitement that’s about to unfold. You’ve been waiting for so long now, and it’s almost time. You can feel the butterflies in your stomach. You start to picture what’s about to happen. The warmth, the indulgence, the satisfaction. You know it’s bad, but it just feels SO good. You shuffle awkwardly on the spot, not knowing who’s going to make the first move.  You consider not going through with it, but you know it’s already too late. And before you know it… it’s happening. It’s all a blur, you’re completely lost in the moment….. and BAM. It happens. All your expectations, all of the anticipation – it just fades away. The moment is gone. You’re left bitterly disappointed. You’re filled with regret and confusion, completely unsatisfied, and why?

That’s right.

You were promised seven inches, and all you got was five and a half.

Well, that’s exactly what happened to one of our students recently. An anonymous commenter has posted on our Ideas Forum that the seven inch pizza they bought from the Papa Johns outlet at our Kedleston Road Campus was found to be LESS than six inches across! (That’s right, pizza! What did you think we were talking about…?)

This particular student felt so aggrieved that they have taken to the Ideas Forum to gather the support of other students to ensure that the size of the pizza they are purchasing is the actual size that they are getting!

And that’s exactly what our Ideas Forum is for – something that you feel strongly about and you want to see changing. Any student can submit an idea for change about their university experience at our Ideas Forum (see here - ) . If you can get 25 other students to vote for your idea, the Union officers HAVE to consider it. It’s such a direct and effective way to get your voice heard! What’s great is that you can use it as many times as you like during your studies, we know that your needs and wants change year on year, so use the Ideas Forum to reflect the current issues you are facing and let us know what it is you care about.

Another fantastic opportunity to voice your opinions and even vote on key issues is at our Student Summit. The next one is taking place on Wednesday 21st November, 1.00pm-3.00pm at Kedleston Road Campus. Summit is a bi-annual meeting where our Union Officers and a randomly selected group of students come together to make decisions on the issues raised on the Ideas Forum on behalf of the students at Derby. During the meeting, the participants discuss these decisions and ultimately make a vote on it. The outcome of the vote determines what the Union will do on the topic going forward. This means that every major decision the Union makes is always led by our students. If you want to register your interest in this for a chance to be randomly selected, please email us at or with the subject ‘Student Summit’.

So….does size matter? Well, one of our students definitely thinks so, and if you agree, maybe head on over to his Idea and vote to show your support
