As your elected Officer Trustee I'm always happy to talk to students and help out where I can.
My name is Beth Baxtrem, I studied Theatre and Education studies Joint Honours here at Derby before I was elected as Vice President (Activities).
During my time at the University of Derby, I have developed many skills that I feel would enable me to go above and beyond in this role. To begin with, I was the charity officer for Derby Ravens and was in post for a year. During my time in this role, I helped plan events, partake in community charity events and essentially raise money to help local and national charities. From this experience I applied to be part of the RAG committee and have been for the past year, even though we have had some hurdles due to Covid-19 we have still, as a committee, had some great virtual events and most importantly helped raise awareness for local and national charities.
Aside from my involvement with the university, I have a wealth of previous experience such as organising events with my local theatre group, youth groups and in school. This ranges from concerts to walks, I have done it all. I led a local youth group from being 16 years of age until I left the area for university. By doing this I gained a wealth of knowledge surrounding mental health and wellbeing issue, leading onto a peer mentoring qualification. I believe that in this day and age, especially within the age group of 18-25, mental health is a key aspect of everyday life.
Committee catch ups to check in on sports clubs and resolve any issues they may have had in semester one, and to go over club development plans to track the progress teams have made.
The idea is that students budget accurately for the next academic year instead of us granting funds. I would like to give each team a set amount for them to use as they please, instead of allocating on a case-by-case basis. I believe this would create more independent and skilful students.
Discussing the ongoing kit tender ensuring students have and will be involved in kit designs.
